Civic Heritage Quest engages young people (16–26) with cultural heritage through gamified digital and virtual quests that build civic awareness, digital skills, and social competences.
Civic Heritage Quest is a project designed for young people (aged 16–26) and their educators, to increase engagement with cultural heritage through digital tools and gamified learning. It addresses a clear gap: traditional educational approaches often fail to resonate with digitally native generations, resulting in low interest in history and cultural heritage. In response, the project develops an immersive learning experience based on quests – both geolocated, on-site activities and fully virtual explorations accessible via a web platform. Participants engage with cultural heritage through storytelling, puzzles, and interactive challenges that simultaneously build civic awareness, digital skills, and social competences.
The project trains youth workers and educators in quest-based digital learning and develops a mobile app and web platform featuring 18 interactive cultural heritage quests.
The project includes training for youth workers and educators in creating digital content and delivering quest-based learning. A mobile app and web platform will be developed to host interactive educational materials, thematic modules, and practical tutorials that support implementation in youth work. In total, 18 quests (9 on-site and 9 virtual) will be created, tested, and refined through pilot activities to ensure usability and educational value.
By combining cultural education with digital innovation, Civic Heritage Quest promotes active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, and social cohesion through accessible online and offline learning experiences aligned with European priorities in digital transformation, civic awareness, and cultural understanding.
